We raised over £4,700 for various charities in 2016/2017
21 July 2017
Pupils made a difference in 2016 and 2017 by supporting various charities by fundraising and collecting donations of food, clothes and toys. Here is a summary of the charities we supported.
It is wonderful to have ended the school year helping to improve the lives of those less fortunate. With your support and generosity we raised £653.30 for the international WaterAid Charity.
WaterAid work with some of the poorest communities in the world to provide clean and safe water for drinking and hygiene, along side decent toilets. This transforms lives as in the world today one in ten peope are living without safe water.
Thank you to everyone who supported our recent charity fundraising in aid of Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. There were many different activities around school, which enabled us to raise £561.29 to help make a difference to the lives of people both in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest communities.
BBC Children in Need
Lots of different activities happened in school to raise £839.88 for Children in Need. This included more delicious cake sales and some very spotty clothes were worn instead of the usual school uniform.
Following an inspiring assembly by one of the Trident Support workers this term – Years 10 and 11 have begun a campaign in school. Trident support families and other members of the community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The girls have designed posters and postcards to raise awareness of the work of the charity and to promote collections of unwanted food, clothes and furniture.
Our first target is completed with 30 ‘Just in Case’ boxes of basic toiletries for individuals and families who have been made homeless through debt, domestic violence, etc.
In December we collected unwanted quality toys and selection boxes, which we had great fun wrapping before donating to Trident Reach for distribution the families experiencing hardship that they are currently supporting.
Thank you to everyone for their generosity in donating selecton boxes, toys and books. They were presented to Trident Reach on Friday 16th December infront of special guests Liam Byrne MP and Tim Boyes BEP, so that they could be distributed to those in need for Christmas.
British Heart Foundation
Thank to everyone who supported our charity collections and fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. We raised a fabulous £650.55 to support research into coronary heart disease, which is the UK's single biggest killer. The British Heart Foundation are working towards the vision of a world where people do not die prematurely or suffer from cardiovascular disease.
Birmingham Children's Hospital
Pupils from Years 7, 8 and 10 worked together to bake and decorate 'Big Sleuth' biscuits. These were extremely popular when they were sold to raise £138.50 for Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Sponsored silences meant that the school was a little quieter than normal in December. The money raised from these and a Christmas themed non uniform day at the end of term enabled us to raise a fabulous £740.46 for Acton Aid.
Royal British Legion Poppy Apppeal
We sold poppies and other merchandise to raise money for the Royal British Legion during November.
Breast Cancer Care
It is fabulous that the whole school have worked together to support our October Charity of Breast Cancer Care lead by our Year 11 volunteers. We raised a fabulous £1121.62. Thank you to everyone for their support.
There was a real buzz in PL Lab as pupils from all year groups worked together to make these fantastic earrings, key rings and pink bows. They have been very popular when they went on sale during the last week of term.
Year 11 have also been busy selling pink ribbon pin badges and a fabulous array of cards. In the first week over 200 pin badges were sold.
Dedicated Year 11 pupils worked hard during lunch times to bake and decorate these beautiful cakes, which tasted as good as they look. For the first time our pupils sold cakes after school at Hodge Hill Primary School on Friday 14th October raising £112. We that all the pupils and their families of Hodge Hill Primary for their support. There were further cake sales to our pupils and staff at lunchtime during the last week of half term.
Fridays have been special days this month as Year 11 pupils added to the total raised by painting pink nails and pink bows with face paints. A ’Wear it Pink’ day on the last day of term was fabulous, although it was confusing seeing some of our staff in school Uniform!
We would like to thank everyone for their efforts and support. This has been an incredible start to this Year’s charity appeals.
Thank you to everyone who donated food as part of our Harvest Celebrations during September and October. All food donated has been shared between the Stechford Food Bank and Trident Reach Food Bank. It will be helping local families in need.
