Unicef Rights Respecting School
Hodge Hill Girls’ School is passionate about ‘Educating Tomorrow’s Women Today’. In school life we aim to improve pupil well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. We aim to ensure that children’s rights are central to our ethos and culture and to further support this we are now working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of UNICEF UK. UNICEF is an international children’s charity that is working with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, in addition to their international work that aims to make the world a safe place for all children.
We have started the process with a questionnaire to staff and pupils, which will form the basis of an action plan as we work towards becoming a ‘Rights Respecting School’.
We are pleased to have achieved the award for 'Recognition of Commitment' in December 2016 and are making good progress towards achieving the Level 1 Award.
A team of our pupils and staff are now working together on a number of strategies within school as we seek to progress and gain the 'Level One' award.
